Patriotism Of The Common Man - A Soldier’s Prayer

Father, I am but a common man, some call the rank and file;
but greater deeds and nobler cause come once in a while.
I recognize that by your Grace, I am truly blessed.
So, to be called to defend those gifts, Father, let me face the test.
The separation, pain and stress, I know just how it feels;
but the greater goal’s outside of me, preserving YOUR ideals.
And so, I don this uniform and go where cause would lead.
Let me reflect your image there in every word and deed.
Tho’ battle rage, let none forget, the real vict’ry has been won;
through sacrifice then triumph, with your risen son.
A victory eternal, accomplishment so sweet,
that we may go where no more we’ll know the meaning of defeat.
