A Missionary's Heart - Understanding the Storm

A fall storm is blowing through Eastern Europe tonight. And much like the storm outside my window, my own mind is a storm of activity.
This morning as I was writing in my prayer journal, I felt a soul storm. You know the kind. The kind that comes rushing through, taking all peace and calm with it.
I cried out to my Father, saying, "A storm within me is raging--probably a storm of my own making, but a storm nonetheless. I seek peace. I seek calm. I reach out my hand, saying, 'Lord, save me,' all the while keeping my eyes and fears on the waves. Take my hand, dear Lord. Help me into the ship and speak sweet peace to the troubled waters of my soul."
Then as I was reading in Psalms this evening, I came across these verses (I don't believe it was coincidental):
"They that go down to the sea in ships, that do business in great waters;
These see the works of the LORD, and his wonders in the deep.
For he commandeth, and raiseth the stormy wind, which lifteth up the waves thereof.
They mount up to the heaven, they go down again to the depths: their soul is melted because of trouble.
They reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man, and are at their wit's end.
Then they cry unto the LORD in their trouble, and he bringeth them out of their distresses.
He maketh the storm a calm, so that the waves thereof are still.
Then are they glad because they be quiet; so he bringeth them unto their desired haven.
Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!" Psalm 107:23-31
In this passage I see myself (as in, reeling to and fro, at my wit's end, and crying unto the Lord). But in it I also see the power of God. He not only has the power to bring on a storm strong enough to break even the strongest of ships, he also has the power to say three little words and make it all go away.
Or, in the words of one of my favorite songs, "Sometimes he calms the storm and other times he calms his child."
