Since Bonnie was a billionaire and also very intelligent, many of her friends called her the Bright Billionaire.
Bonnie was also very generous, and she continually looked for opportunities to share her wealth.
As she was watching the evening news, Bonnie observed that millions of people were either homeless or lived in sub-par housing. Millions of others had no clean drinking water and/or an inadequate food supply.
“I can’t just sit here with all of this money in the bank doing nothing but making more money to do nothing but sit around making more money,” she told herself. “I believe the Lord wants me to give all of my money away to help those who are thirsty, starving or don’t have a decent home in which to live.
“When I get up tomorrow morning, I’m going to go to the bank and withdraw $1 million and see how long it takes to give it away to churches and businesses.”
After withdrawing $1 million from the bank, she visited a friend, Allen her Accountant. “I sure hope the money I’m giving away will make a difference in people’s lives,” she told Allen.
Bonnie spent about one week driving around town, giving money to churches, businesses and Christian schools. She then visited Allen again to see how her giving was coming along.
“I’m a professional giver!,” Bonnie laughed. “I’m giving all of my money away!”
“How much money are you giving to each organization or charity?,” asked Allen the Accountant.
Bonnie was proud of her new-found generosity. “I’m giving each one of them $50,” she beamed.
“If you are really serious about giving away all of your money, you’re going to have to increase that amount substantially,” Allen said. “At only $50 a pop, you’re never even going to give away a small amount of interest that your money is earning. Your money will just keep growing.”
“What do you suggest?,” Bonnie inquired.
“I would suggest that you give at least $1 million each time you write a check,” Allen said.
“You’ll still need a long time to give away all of your money.”
Allen continued, “And I have another suggestion…you could give your accountant a raise.”
“How much am I currently paying you?”
“I’m making $25,000 a year,” Allen said. “I was thinking that one of those $1 million checks would really come in handy since the economy has gone downhill.”
“How would you feel if I decide not to honor your request?,” asked Bonnie.
“Then I would greatly appreciate one of those $50 checks!,” grinned Allen.
