Desensitizing America

Christian Author Writer All media, books, newspapers, magazines, radio, TV, the internet as well as schools teach people how to look at situations and what is to be considered good or bad. If one has obeyed God and has on the full armor of God they will not be harmed. But if they don’t, they will be harmed. They will buy into a lot of teaching that is not of God and most often is from the devil.

Eph: 6:10-18: Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. 11: Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12: For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. 13: Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. 14: Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; 15: And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16: Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. 17: And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: 18: Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

If you have on the full armor of God, you will have your mind protected with the knowledge that you are saved and belong to Jesus. You will have your mind protected because your loins a girt about with the truth. You will have your mind protected because you hide behind the shield of faith and wield the sword of the Spirit and are covered by the prayers of the saints.

This does not mean that you can watch, read, listen to whatever you want to or feel like doing because one who has on the full armor is coached in wisdom, love, and understanding and therefore avoids that which they know to be an evil influence. You see, Christians are to walk by the Spirit so they don’t fulfill the lusts of the flesh. Their carnal nature is still susceptible.

But this article is to show the power of deception when the enemy wants to teach.

As I thought about this matter, I saw how the old cowboy movies stereotyped and slanted things according to the writers’ and producers’ views. I saw that the wives of the regular residents were depicted as ridged in morals and snobbish toward the dancehall girls. And the dancehall girl was most often depicted as a person of great inner beauty--innocent of wrong intent, generous, kind, and victimized. So the town’s upright women came off looking mean-spirited and the dancehall girl won people’s sympathy.

This theme was repeated over and over and in time, people began to look at the situation of a clean town putting up with loose women differently. Whereas before they were feeling righteous indignation and fear for their men and abhorrence for half dressed, loose women hanging around their men when they went to do a guy thing, now they had to change their mind and behavior or else they would feel guilty of being judgmental and unkind.

This is how it became acceptable to be a dancehall girl, which led to many other unacceptable behaviors being accepted.

The media has done this with many things and they are still doing it. Entertainment is a powerful; medium and can be given credit for convincing society that it’s okay to commit fornication, tell lies when it’s necessary, divorce if you are miserable in marriage, cheat on your income tax, misuse your time at work, give your children too much freedom, and on and on.

How did they do all that? They did it by showing convincing scenes, depicted in their way of thinking, on these subjects over and over. Sitcoms were very useful in this technique. Even if the watcher, listener, reader didn’t become convinced that these things aren’t all that wrong, they still became desensitized to such things, causing them to overlook people’s wrong behavior. People in general become desensitized and then eventually convinced that these things aren’t so bad and that they are unavoidable.

Some may wonder what I think Christians should do about other people’s wrong behavior. Well, it depend on the situation, but the aim, as a Christian, is to get the truth to people without being rude or unkind. But Christians today have been taught that it’s not their place to judge other people’s behavior. It isn’t their place to censure or condemn, but if their friend or brother in the Lord is doing something that God has declared to be a sin, they should be concerned and pray for them until they know what they should do about it, rather than hardly even noticing that the person is in jeopardy, as many are doing today. Christians are the light and salt.

Matt: 5:13: Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.

Matt: 5:14-15: Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. 15: Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light
unto all that are in the house.

This is how we got to the place that we are now with all the social problems and the economic problems. God said, “No,” because He knows what He’s talking about. Disobedience and rebellion caused these problems and God is getting the blame for people’s problems. Since nobody’s sounding the trumpet, the mass are in derision and bewilderment. The answer is still repentance and receiving God’s gift of salvation, but who is there to tell people that their ways are causing the problems?
