Christian Author Writer My father told me when I married, "Son the best way to keep the fire burning in your marriage to Sister Mary Frances is to never stop courting her. Whatever you did to get her, keep on doing the same thing and that fire shall never grow dim" She was a full blood Cherokee and her family wasn't really excited about her getting involved with a mixed blood. But Poppa swept her off her moccasins and won that battle. My! My! Poppa is trying to be professional here as I write this letter, but it is so very hard to do when I start talking about the pure sweet love of Jesus! Who are we? Why are we here? What was our original thing? The reason we are here is because we are in love. In fact disciples of Jesus should always be in the passionate throes of “first love.” That “first love” is the love we have for Christ. It was that “first love” that brought us to our Savior’s feet. It was that “first love” that emboldened us to ask Christ to make us his. It was that “first love” that, through God’s grace, gave us this free gift of faith. I was married over four and a half decades and her touch right up until her death would make my heart skip a beat. Me-thinks it should be the same way with Jesus the Lover of our soul. Can you say Amen?

If you put a piece of iron in the presence of an electrified field, that piece of iron itself will become electrified. And in the presence of that electrical field, it is changed into a magnet. As long as it remains in contact with that field of power, it will continue to attract other pieces to itself. We are like that piece of iron. In the presence of Christ, we experience his love and take on his likeness. We are changed, electrified by the Holy Spirit, to attract others to the same love of God that we experience. More people have been brought into the church by the kindness of real Christian love than by all the theological arguments in the world, and more people have been driven from the church by the hardness and ugliness of so-called Christianity than by all the doubts in the world. Someone said to me,"Preacher man what's it gonna take to restore my church to where it was when we started out?" My answer is, "A whole lot O' SonLight, and without a revival of FIRST LOVE You'll never have the SonLight." Dear friends it's all about keeping that Love on fire. Amen!

Picture this scene. "It is dusk, and a couple is sitting on an ocean beach. The sand is warm to the touch. The sun is just about to set, kissing the surface of the ocean. A spirit of romance comes over the young woman. Without taking her eyes off of the ocean and sun she says, "Isn't that sunset gorgeous?"
The fellow replies, "Well, strictly speaking, the sun is not setting. Nor for that matter, does it ever do so. The sun, you see, is in a relatively fixed position in relation to the earth. So, to speak precisely, one ought to say that the earth is rising."

An absolutely brilliant statement for the classroom, but an unbelievably dumb statement for the beach in the presence of a beautiful young woman."
It is truly possible to be "homiletically brilliant, verbally fluent, theologically profound, biblically orthodox and spiritually useless". In Poppa's view, love is a spiritual thing, whether toward your lover or the lover of your soul...Can you say Amen?

I was driving down a bumpy country road when I saw a bag of cement beside the road. It appeared to have fallen off a delivery truck as it hit one of the bumps in the rough road. Being a person who does not like to see anything wasted, I stopped to pick up the lost bag of cement. When I reached down to pick up this heavy bag, to my surprise, I discovered it was not soft and limber, as I had expected, but had solidified into an immovable piece of cement.
Often our lives are like that bag of cement. They take on shapes that were not intended and become hardened in that shape. That bag of cement was meant to become a part of some beautiful structure, but because it did not reach its place of service, because it was not used for the purpose it was made, it became a useless rock in the form of a bag of cement. The opportunity to make something wonderful or useful was gone once it became hard. Beloved, God wants to make something beautiful of your life. Don't let a hard heart or missed opportunities rob you of the purpose for which God created you. Jesus wasn't about DOING miracles, he was about BEING the miracle..And dear friend if you have been born of the Spirit, then you should be about BEING the miracle. Amen!

Poppa has always had a reputation for being a bit of an agitator, and one of my favs is to use the term Holy Ghost. Mostly because it sends some folks into a tissy, it seems to indicate barbaric mentality in some religious circles. I was called to minister at a revival meeting some years ago that was to be televised. When the pastor called me he said he had to do something quick, because the other church in his town was eating him alive, I said what do you mean? He said, his church was the elite of the town and had plenty of money but his attendance was falling off while the other one was gaining membership. I accepted the invite and when I arrived he started giving me these instructions. He told me not to use the the term 'Holy Ghost'. He said it would be better if I said Holy Spirit because it sounded so much more classy and his people accept it better...He also told me, It would be much better if I would use the word 'Love' instead of 'Blood'. He then handed me a menu and said, this is the way, and exactly the time each event of the service needs to be conducted. He sat a little clock on the pulpit and said, this will keep you out of trouble Poppa... I looked at the menu and thought, hmmmmm! I don't see any room here for the "Holy Ghost", and there will be no "Love" without the "Blood"!

Lights!, camera!, action! The pastor introduced me to the television audience and told the world I would be the one doing the teaching in this revival meeting. He said, "I will at this time let him tell you what God has given him for the theme for this meeting" I stepped to the pulpit, turned the clock upside down, greeted everyone in the name of Jesus, and announced I will be teaching... "Because of the Blood of Jesus we can be lead by the Holy Ghost." You coulda heard a pin drop! I turned around to see the expression on the pastors face, but he was laying on the floor. The pastor had fainted!...he was one more uptight preacher...and it caused him to Panic! Some of the most uptight people in the world are Christians, relax and don't 'panic' about every little thing, I don't know of one instance where the word recorded that the Holy Spirit was, is, or ever will be in a panic. You are thinking, Oh' No! what did you do Poppa? I walked over to him put my hands on him and said,"In the name of Jesus get up Man" He came to his self, got up, sat down in a chair and spent the rest of the service holding his head in his hands..and the Holy Spirit quickened me to who really needed the revival. Poppa just kept on ploughing, I went on with my teaching. I had a background with this pastor, we both, along with four others, were all out of the same home church. He was one of the hottest if not the hottest of the six. A real "Son of Thunder" We all were, so much so that the district headquarters warned our pastor to be careful because, "Those boys are all "Sons of Thunder" and they may hurt you until they get seasoned and cool down. This is the only one out of the six that cooled down, the ones still living are still the fire eaters they ever were! This one got his eye on building a mega church and making a name for himself.

The next night folks came out of the woodwork and the auditorium was packed out, it seems the camera caught all that, and it got around that the pastor had a heart attack and Poppa healed him. Yes sir!...that Texas evangelist is a real doozy he has the gift of healing!...

All that happened, because the man wasn't relaxed and thinking in the Spirit. He was afraid he was going to offend someone and lose his job! Amen?. I told the folks there, I didn't come here to sell you a prayer cloth, a book, a CD, a jug of miracle water, nor a bottle of olive oil. I don't intend on blowing hot air on you so that you can receive the Holy Ghost, what I have is the word of God with nothing added to it or taken away from it. You called me to preach a revival and that's exactly what I intend to do, you can either get in, get out, get run over, or I can go home, I have 2 years backlog of churches wanting revival and can start anyone of them day after tomorrow. I did not come here to play church! If you wanted things to stay the same you should never have called me!...Folks i'm not talking about creating a circus, I am also not talking about a smooth talking con artist that will tickle your ears and tell you what you want to hear while cleaning out your bank account. I am talking about teaching/preaching the pure unadulterated word of God anointed of the Holy Spirit. ..Can you say Amen? An elderly couple and several young couples sitting on the third row were all smiling from ear to ear and three of them gave me a witness. I knew where the amen corner was immediately, and I knew I had some backup! The Holy Spirit laid on my heart to preach to that pastor as well as to the church. Proverbs 27:6: 'Faithful are the wounds of a friend'. What a wonderful Friend we have in Jesus—but what a false friend He would be if He never told us of the sins He can see in our lives!

I stayed at that church for three weeks but after the eighth day I was no longer doing all the preaching. Somewhere on or about the fifth day the Holy Ghost fell on that crowd and the real preacher came. The pastor really did get healed, he found his "First Love" Then he got "hot" and started preaching his own revival, the "Thunder Roared, the Lightning Flashed, the Wind of God Blew Mightily in that Place." I would preach for a while, hand him the microphone and he would preach for a while. The pastor of the "Other" church heard about all that was going on, brought about a hundred of his sheep joined in with the revival and we even let him do some of the preaching. It turned into a city wide revival and the two pastors became fast friends. Poppa stayed for backup for the other days. You may say, Poppa did that make you angry?...Come on now! thats what I went there for, I didn't go there to be a rock star!....Can you say Glory to God?

Come with me and lets explore what Jesus has in mind for His church. Let's get our spiritual shovels and dig for treasures tucked away in the word of God. My! My! what a lovely journey it shall be....."Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price"......continued.

God Bless You
Poppa
