Jesus Disciples

Christian Author Writer Disciple: A follower of person or idea: somebody who believes in and follows the teachings of a leader, a philosophy, or a religion.

The verses below cause me to think Christians take the idea of being Jesus’ disciple way too lightly.

Mt:10:24-25: The disciple is not above his master, nor the servant above his lord. 5: It is enough for the disciple that he be as his master, and the servant as his lord. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more shall they call them of his household?

Lk:6:40: The disciple is not above his master: but every one that is perfect shall be as his master.

(These two scriptures say that Jesus’ disciples should be modeling their lives after Him. And that they should be prepared to suffer persecution because they are His disciples.)

Lk:14:26-33: If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple. 27: And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple. 28: For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it? 29: Lest haply, after he hath laid the foundation, and is not able to finish it, all that behold it begin to mock him, 30: Saying, This man began to build, and was not able to finish. 31: Or what king, going to make war against another king, sitteth not down first, and consulteth whether he be able with ten thousand to meet him that cometh against him with twenty thousand? 32: Or else, while the other is yet a great way off, he sendeth an ambassage, and desireth conditions of peace. 33: So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple.

(This scripture says that Jesus’ disciples are supposed to put Him first in their lives, even to the forsaking all other interests, if those interests conflict with their mission of being Christ’s disciple.)

Matt: 28:18-20: And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. 19: Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world.
Amen.

(This scripture says The Great Commission is to make disciples for Jesus of all nations. Is that what is taking place? Do we really comprehend the scope of this concept? Can you imagine a church--all churches living and talking and ministering as Jesus did? We would not marvel at what He said in Jn: 14:12-14, if we did.)

Jn: 14:12-14: Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.13: And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14: If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it. 15: If ye love me, keep my commandments.
