It all started in the garden of Eden:
Gen: 3:12-19: And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat. 13: And the LORD God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat. 14: And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life: 15: And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel. 16: Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee. 17: And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life; 18: Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field; 19: In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.
(Because they hearkened--listened to--believed what was said, that is why we must go through and pass this test of our faith. God said: Don’t eat it. The devil said: God deceives--it won’t hurt you--it will help you. And they believed the liar instead of God their Father. Why? Because they wanted to. Everything bears after its own kind--we were all born leaning toward what our carnal side believes and wants.
Abel lived by faith. Enoch lived by faith. All those that are in heaven now, lived by faith, but some had more faith than other. Heb: 11 tells us that those who stepped out into the deep in faith accomplished much.
Abraham was one of those. He walked by faith. Left his home and family and launched out into the unknown because a God he couldn’t see and only heard in his consciousness told him to. He knew that this God that had come to him was almighty God. He knew that this God was great and mighty, good and trustworthy. And he obeyed Him. That is why he is the father of the Hebrew nation. That is why the Hebrews are God’s chosen people. He made covenant with them.
Jesus, God’s chosen instrument to make atonement and restore all things had to live by faith. Now, we--those who choose to believe God and choose to receive Jesus as our Lord and Savior, have to live by faith. Faith that God is who He says He is. Faith that He’ll do what He says He’ll do.
We all need Him. All children need parents and all people need to know God as their own personal loving Father. But it all comes by faith. Every new step of faith must be by deliberate choice. Everything gained through faith must be held fast by a deliberate choice to not let it go.
We will see in the scriptures below that faith is the requirement. We cannot enter the kingdom of God without it. If we continue to act like our forefathers who, under pressure, believed the physical evidence or the liar instead of God, we will not overcome. Jesus has called us to overcome.)
Deut: 1:32:28-38: Whither shall we go up? our brethren have discouraged our heart, saying, The people is greater and taller than we; the cities are great and walled up to heaven; and moreover we have seen the sons of the Anakims there. 29: Then I said unto you, Dread not, neither be afraid of them. 30: The LORD your God which goeth before you, he shall fight for you, according to all that he did for you in Egypt before your eyes; 31: And in the wilderness, where thou hast seen how that the LORD thy God bare thee, as a man doth bear his son, in all the way that ye went, until ye came into this place. 32: Yet in this thing ye did not believe the LORD your God, 33: Who went in the way before you, to search you out a place to pitch your tents in, in fire by night, to shew you by what way ye should go, and in a cloud by day. 34: And the LORD heard the voice of your words, and was wroth, and sware, saying, 35: Surely there shall not one of these men of this evil generation see that good land, which I sware to give unto your fathers, 36: Save Caleb the son of Jephunneh; he shall see it, and to him will I give the land that he hath trodden upon, and to his children, because he hath wholly followed the LORD. 37: Also the LORD was angry with me for your sakes, saying, Thou also shalt not go in thither. 38: But Joshua the son of Nun, which standeth before thee, he shall go in thither: encourage him: for he shall cause Israel to inherit it.
2Kgs: 17:14: Notwithstanding they would not hear, but hardened their necks, like to the neck of their fathers, that did not believe in the LORD their God.
Deut: 32:20: And he said, I will hide my face from them, I will see what their end shall be: for they are a very froward generation, children in whom is no faith.
Mt: 6:30: Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?
Mt: 8:26: And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm.
Mt: 9:2: And, behold, they brought to him a man sick of the palsy, lying on a bed: and Jesus seeing their faith said unto the sick of the palsy; Son, be of good cheer; thy sins be forgiven thee.
Mt: 9:22: But Jesus turned him about, and when he saw her, he said, Daughter, be of good comfort; thy faith hath made thee whole. And the woman was made whole from that hour.
Mt: 9:29: Then touched he their eyes, saying, According to your faith be it unto you.
Mt: 15:28: Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour.
Mt: 17:20: And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.
Mk:11:20-24: And in the morning, as they passed by, they saw the fig tree dried up from the roots. 21: And Peter calling to remembrance saith unto him, Master, behold, the fig tree which thou cursedst is withered away. 22: And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God. 23: For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith. 24: Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.
Lk:18:7-8: And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them? 8: I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?
Rom: 1:17: For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.
Rom: 3:25: Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;
Rom: 4:11: And he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had yet being uncircumcised: that he might be the father of all them that believe, though they be not circumcised; that righteousness might be imputed unto them also:
Rom: 4:16: Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all,
Rom: 4:19-20: And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sara's womb: 20: He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God;
Rom: 5:1: Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:
Rom:11:20: Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by faith. Be not highminded, but fear:
2Cor: 4:16-17: For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day. 17: For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory;
(God wants us to look forward to the eternal and thereby be empowered to deny temporary gratifications when they are in conflict with righteousness. This is what Adam and Eve did not do.)
Gal: 3:22: But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe.
Eph: 6:16: Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. (Would to God that Adam and Eve had taken the shield of faith and quenched the fiery darts of the liar. Glory to God, Jesus did. Let us follow Jesus.)
Col: 1:21-23: And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled 22: In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight: 23: If ye continue in the faith grounded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope of the gospel, which ye have heard, and which was preached to every creature which is under heaven; whereof I Paul am made a minister;
1Tm: 6:12: Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.
2Tm: 4:7: I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:
Heb: 10:35-39: Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward. 36: For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise. 37: For yet a little while, and he that shall come will come, and will not tarry. 38: Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him. 39: But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul.
Jas: 1:2-8: My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; 3: Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. 4: But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing. 5: If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. 6: But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. 7: For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord. 8: A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.
(We must be perfected--we must learn what Adam and Eve didn’t know--that God’s Word will never fail. We must keep the faith. That means we must hold fast to what God teaches in the Bible even if what is happening to us seems to go contrary to it. That’s what this is all about: BELIEVING God and not the liar.)
2Pet: 1:4: Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
(See what this is teaching--the promises of God are supposed to sustain us. They are to empower us to keep on keeping on. This is done by our looking forward to the reward--the promise fulfilled--and therefore refusing to take matters into our own hands. We must believe God as Adam and Eve had failed to do. This is another care of giving up the temporal for the eternal.)
Rev: 2:7: He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.
Rev: 2:11: He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death.
Rev: 2:17: He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it.
Rev: 2:26: And he that overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations:
Rev: 3:5: He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.
Rev: 3:12: Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name.
Rev: 3:21: To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.
Rev: 21:7: He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.
(Overcometh what? The temptation to believe the lie, because it looks like the truth, but does not line up with what God has taught.
2Thes:2:8-12: And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming: 9: Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, 10: And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. 11: And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: 12: That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
