A Different Gospel

Christian Author Writer I endured a lecture from a well-meaning person who thought I ought to realize that the modern gospel is the truth. She informed me in no uncertain terms that God is not only the Christian’s God, but He is the Jewish God, the Islam God, the Hindu’s God and so on. In other words all religions lead to God.

She then explained that all religions’ bibles are Bibles--there is the Christian Bible, the Torah for the Jews, the Koran for the Moslems and so forth.

She asserted that the Bible was written by men. I pointed out that it was inspired by God and that He oversaw the writing of it and that He saw to it that it communicated what He wanted taught. But she insisted that the men who wrote it put in what they thought was right and wrong as well as what God had said was right and wrong.

So, so far she’s made Christianity just one of many religions and therefore not the Truth as the Bible declares that it is. She has disarmed the written Word--declaring fallibility. I tell you folks--this takes a lot of steam out of the Christian witness--for our authority, confidence, and power is in our faith that the Bible is the Truth and that the God of the Bible is almighty God and Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.

I replied: Surely you believe what Jesus taught. He is the great teacher and He is the Truth. She could not refute that. There is enough teaching just in what Jesus said to invalidate this new gospel, but I will give other scriptures too, to show that God has declared Himself to be God and has declared the Bible to be the book of Truth and has declared Jesus as the only way to eternal life.

Then she tells me that basically what God is after is for all people to get along and help one another. That sounded real good, but there’s a lot more to it. The Bible is a handbook on how to do warfare. The Bible makes it clear that we are in a war and that we must learn warfare, otherwise the enemy will destroy us.

Her last firmly declared fact was that God will eventually save just about everyone. I think she was saying that we are all learning and if we don’t get it right, here, then there must be a place such as purgatory where a person goes until they are ready to be good citizens of God’s kingdom.

Now that is the new Christianity. The new or I should say that is today’s accepted gospel. To refute the new gospel, I could just point to the whole Bible, but few would read it and compare so I will include powerful scriptures that should convince the reader of the real Truth. Some will say, but you are just using the Christian Bible and I say it is the only Truth and if you claim to be a Christian, you better go by the Christian Bible.

About the Word:

Ps: 119:16: I will delight myself in thy statutes: I will not forget thy word.
Ps: 119:89: For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven.
Ps: 138:2: I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word (The Bible) above all thy name.

Mt: 4:4: But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. (Jesus’ words.)
Jn: 1:1: In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
Jn: 17:17: Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. (Jesus’ words)

Is: 59:20-21: And the Redeemer shall come to Zion, and unto them that turn from transgression in Jacob, saith the LORD. 21: As for me, this is my covenant with them, saith the LORD; My spirit that is upon thee, and my words which I have put in thy mouth, shall not depart out of thy mouth, nor out of the mouth of thy seed, nor out of the mouth of thy seed's seed, saith the LORD, from henceforth and for ever.

Is: 66:2:2: For all those things hath mine hand made, and those things have been, saith the LORD: but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at my word.

Jer: 8:8-9: How do ye say, We are wise, and the law of the LORD is with us? Lo, certainly in vain made he it; the pen of the scribes is in vain. 9: The wise men are ashamed, they are dismayed and taken: lo, they have rejected the word of the LORD; and what wisdom is in them?

Jn: 13:24-26: Therefore will I scatter them as the stubble that passeth away by the wind of the wilderness. 25: This is thy lot, the portion of thy measures from me, saith the LORD; because thou hast forgotten me, and trusted in falsehood. 26: Therefore will I discover thy skirts upon thy face, that thy shame may appear.

The scriptures:

Mt: 4:1-11: Jesus used scripture to resist the devil and temptation.
Mt: 21:42: Jesus saith unto them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner: this is the Lord's doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes?
Mt: 22:29: Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God.
Mt: 26:54: But how then shall the scriptures be fulfilled, that thus it must be?
Mt: 26:56: But all this was done, that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled. Then all the disciples forsook him, and fled.
Mk: 12:24: And Jesus answering said unto them, Do ye not therefore err, because ye know not the scriptures, neither the power of God?
Mk: 14:49: I was daily with you in the temple teaching, and ye took me not: but the scriptures must be fulfilled.
Lk: 24:27: And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.
Lk: 24:32: And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures?
Lk: 24:45: Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures,
Jn: 5:39: Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.
Acts: 17:2: And Paul, as his manner was, went in unto them, and three sabbath days reasoned with them out of the scriptures,
Acts: 17:11: These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.
Acts:18:24: And a certain Jew named Apollos, born at Alexandria, an eloquent man, and mighty in the scriptures, came to Ephesus.
Acts: 18:28: For he mightily convinced the Jews, and that publickly, shewing by the scriptures that Jesus was Christ.
Rom: 15:4: For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.
Rom: 16:26: But now is made manifest, and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, made known to all nations for the obedience of faith:
1Cor: 15:3: For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
1Cor: 15:4: And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
2Tim: 3:16: All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
2Pet: 1:20-21: Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. 21: For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

What God says about salvation:

Gal: 1:8-11: But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.9: As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ. But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man. 12: For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ.

Is: 59: 20-21: And the Redeemer shall come to Zion, and unto them that turn from transgression in Jacob, saith the LORD.

Acts: 4:10-12: Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole. 11: This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner. 12: Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

Phil: 2:10-11: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; 11: And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

There’s more to it than trying to get along with people and help them. What Jesus says about Christian behavior:

Mt: 5:1-12: The Beatitudes
Mt: 5:13-16: Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. 14: Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. 15: Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. 16: Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

Mt: 5:17-48: How to walk in love toward your fellow man.

Mt: 6: 1-34: How to Worship God.
vs. 33: But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. (Where are you going to seek Him? In the Book of Truth--the Christian Bible)

Mt: 7: 1-26: How to enter in.

Mt: 12-24: Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets. 13: Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: 14: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. 15: Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. 16: Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? 17: Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. 18: A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. 19: Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. 20: Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them. 21: Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. 22: Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 23: And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

Mt: 7:24-29: Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: 25: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. 26: And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: 27: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it. 28: And it came to pass, when Jesus had ended these sayings, the people were astonished at his doctrine: 29: For he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.

Eph: 6:13-18: Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. 14: Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; 15: And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16: Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. 17: And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: 18: Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

Is basically everyone getting in?

Mt: 13:49-50: So shall it be at the end of the world: the angels shall come forth, and sever the wicked from among the just, 50: And shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.

Mt: 16: 24-25: Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. 25: For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.

Mt: 18:18: Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

Mt: 22: 9-14: Go ye therefore into the highways, and as many as ye shall find, bid to the marriage. 10: So those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together all as many as they found, both bad and good: and the wedding was furnished with guests. 11: And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man which had not on a wedding garment: 12: And he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless. 13: Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. 14: For many are called, but few are chosen.

Mt: 28:18-20: And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. 19: Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

Mk: 8:38: 38: Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.

Mk: 16:15-16: And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. 16: He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

1Jn: 5:11-12: And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12: He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.
