Confessions Of A Worry Wart

Overcoming Struggles
- Fiction No
Sitting on my couch on a cold and dreary Saturday watching nothing in particular on TV, obsessing over the anxiety du jour, I had a sudden realization. If worry doesn't add a single hour to our lives, why do we often worry as if our very lives depended on it?
There comes a point in every life when you realize that you are not in charge, you've never been in charge, and you're not ever going to be in charge. Sure, there are some things you can control, choices to make, but the flow of life is really out of your hands. God never intended us to be the masters of our own destinies. He asks us to follow Him and trust that He knows the way. You can't control everything that happens. You can't control how other people behave or react. Joy is not the reward for the appropriate amount of suffering, but a choice that we make each and every day, understanding and accepting that God in Heaven cares for us and is concerned about the everyday situations of our lives.
There is nothing that happens to us that takes God by surprise. He knows what the future holds and He has already made a way for us to be victorious in the end. Deuteronomy 31:6 says, "Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you."
In Matthew 6:34 Jesus tells us, "Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."
Since the same God who created Heaven and Earth, who holds the entire universe in the palm of His hand cares enough for us to even have the hairs on our head numbered, what are we truly worried about?
