Waiting for the Sunrise

Overcoming Struggles
- Fiction No
Brilliant hues of crimson, pink and orange paint the eastern sky with a constantly changing kaleidoscope of colours. Trees stand silhouetted in black against the spectacular backdrop as the world waits with a holy hush. Finally the sun peeks above the horizon as a new day dawns. No matter how dark the night preceding it, the dawn holds a new promise from the Creator whose signature it bears. In Psalm 19:1 (NIV) we read, “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.”
Many times we go through dark nights of grief and pain, longing for relief, longing for a sunrise of hope in our hearts. Will it never end? Does God even care? Does He know that I am hurting? We cry out in our grief and pain. “Remember my affliction and my bitterness, the wormwood and the gall! My soul continually thinks of it and is bowed down within me” (Lamentations 3:19 RSV).
Yet, in the next verses we see the comfort that the Lord gives: “But this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope: The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is thy faithfulness” (Lamentations 3:21-22 RSV). What a wonderful promise to claim!
Thank you, Lord, for Your unfailing mercies and faithfulness. Thank you that You can bring the sunrise to our dark nights and hope to our hearts. Amen
