Shana Schutte’s bedroom closet is filled with stacks of spiral notebooks. “Writing has been a way for me to communicate since I was twelve. My journals are a record of many wonderful events but also hold memories of disappointment and anger with God.”
When Shana began journaling she had no idea what God put on paper through her hand, He would later place in her mouth.
In 2001, God took Shana from teaching middle school in Houston, Texas to teaching adults with Texas-based ministry Kids Talk About God (KTAG). Then in 2003, God used KTAG to launch her into a speaking and writing career when she founded Run to God Ministries. Later she began working as an editor for Focus on the Family and is now a regular contributing author for Focus on the Family and other non-profits.
Shana is grateful for the mentors God has given her for encouragement. “When I was twenty-four one of the greatest gifts I received was a relationship with a wonderful woman named Cheryl. She taught me to look to Christ for emotional healing and strength. It was a turning point.”
Another turning point came when Shana attended Houston’s First Baptist Church. Under the instruction of popular author and Bible teacher, Beth Moore, Shana learned to love Scripture. For two years, she benefited from Moore’s passion-filled teaching. She is grateful how God used her to bring her where she is today. While at HFBC, God gave her a vision to speak and teach others through writing.
Today, Shana still holds a pencil and spiral notebook in one hand, and God’s hand in the other.
Shana has been been published by Focus on the Family’s flagship magazine, Today’s Christian Woman, FamilyLife, Troubledwith.com (a Focus website), Clubhouse Jr. (a Focus magazine), At the Center (a magazine for pregnancy centers published by Scepter Institute), Mission of Mercy, International Students Incorporated and Focus on the Family’s website, family.org for the following channels: Focus Over Fifty, Marriage and Relationships, Life Challenges, Entertainment, and Parenting.

Several years ago I watched a movie in which a tiny girl held a handful of shiny pennies. An adult approached and held out a five-dollar bill, inviting her to trade. Convinced she had what was best because it looked like the most, she told him no and hugged her pennies close.
This reminds me of how we can be when Christ comes to us with an invitation. He stands before us and asks us to join Hi

Fiction: False
Ecclesiastes 3:2 says, "To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven..." In the list that follows many seasons, or times, are mentioned such as birth and death, weeping and laughing--and planting and plucking.
There is "a time to plant and a time to pluck what is planted."
I don't know about you, but I usually don't enjoy plucking up anything that was planted by e

Fiction: False
Many things can be accomplished by mankind such as the studying of the stars, the making of multi-million dollar industries or the creation of clones--but the transformation of the human heart is another story.
That alone is a "God thing."
If you've ever tried to change your fears, frustrations, anxieties or addictions without Him, you know what I mean. Certainly, we can cooperate with God

Fiction: False
Have you ever struggled with doubts about God, your faith, or His love for you? Doubt is something that inevitably comes knocking on the door of every heart, no matter how much we want to avoid it. And if you're like me, you've wondered if there can be anything good that can come from it.
Thankfully, there can be something transformational about doubt because it pushes us to the edge of oursel

When I was seven, my older sister and I heard that a circus was coming to our little Southern Idaho town. We couldn't wait. When the big day arrived, we walked to the high school football field a half mile away, found a seat high on the bleachers, and waited for the show to start. I don't remember anything about the circus--except for one terrifying incident.
Part way through the show, the ani

What Kind of Love Is That?
by Shana Schutte
I couldn't sleep last night because something I read online hit me hard before I hit the pillow. So when I should have been getting my beauty sleep, I was thinking about love instead.
Around 9 p.m., I visited a blog written by a man named Tom who lost his wife just a few short months ago to breast cancer. As part of his journey through grief, he'

There once was a man who netted three trout from a mountain stream and carefully placed them side by side on a thin slice of grass. Before he removed them from the water, they were like liquid ballet in motion. Fluid. Graceful. Vibrant. Alive.
After he netted them, it was another story.
As the trout lay on the grass, they were motionless. Their eyes were fixed. They gasped for air, and the

Devotionals
Fiction: False
Have you ever wondered why God sometimes seems inconsistent in compassion and love? Why He answers the prayer of a little girl for a puppy, but denies the request of a man to be healed from cancer? Why He allows school shootings, AIDS and terrorist attacks, but gives a man a new job when he asks?
If we consider the woes of humanity long enough and believe the lies that God is involved here (but

Fiction: False
Every woman fears that her greatest anxieties will become reality; that somehow things like her hair always being bushy, constantly having PMS, or gaining three-hundred pounds will happen. Sometimes she even battles these fears in her dreams, which is why one night while I slept, I dreamt I was being chased down a long, narrow hallway by a giant chocolate donut which screamed, "Eat me! Eat me!" Ap

Devotionals
Fiction: False
I wish I could sit with you and we could talk about love. No, not about the kind that makes a woman's heart swell. Not the kind a mother has for her child, or the kind a husband has for his wife--but the kind of love that isn't returned. I wish we could chat because I'm certain you could tell me a story about a time when you gave your love away and it came back, like an unopened letter marked "ret
