FORT MYERS, Fl. — Challenges have always awaited husbands and wives in their quest to remain happy — and remain happily married. That’s the case more than ever today, considering the stresses of modern society, the current economic crisis and the abundance of negative images in pop culture.

Written by Deron Snyder, a columnist with The News-Press, and Vanessa Snyder, a teacher at South Fort Myers High School, “50 Ways” is designed to help couples navigate the sometimes difficult road of marriage, using the spiritual principles of Christ.
“This is a book that has come out of our experiences through 18 years of marriage,” says Deron, who about the subject in the Dec. 6 issue of The News-Press. “We believe couples can avoid or work through many problems by using this book as a resource.”
“50 Ways” focuses on praying for your marriage; guarding against obstacles such as complacency; spending time and sharing feelings; and giving of yourself to put your spouse first. The Snyders had planned to write this book several years ago, shortly after their first release, “50 Ways to Put Christ Back In Christmas — And Keep the Spirit All Year.” But with several more years of marriage under their belts – including a recent rough stretch — they had more to offer by waiting until this year.
“It’s interesting how the book came together,” Vanessa says. “I’m not sure we were ready to write this 10 years ago. Now that we’ve had some more challenging experiences, we can reflect on our marriage and see what we’ve done wrong and what we can do better.”
Each of the 50 ways is accompanied by a Scripture. The Snyders believe it’s extremely important for couples to understand that God loves marriage and has provided them with Biblical guidelines to follow. The advice includes: Tell your secrets; Find another couple to mentor you; Go to bed together; Worship together; Play together; Swallow your pride.
The book makes the perfect gift for married couples, as well as their married family members, friends and loved ones. It’s also great for fodder for discussion in churches’ men’s, women’s and marriage ministry groups.
