UNITY in the body of Christ,
an unattainable goal or a reality for a Christ focused church?
Lately, it has been placed on my heart that God is sorrowing over a growing concern-disunity in the church. We've been seeing a seriously disunified (if that is a word) or a disjointed church. The struggle for power or a strict adherence to doctrine are all too prevalent in today's church. Is this God ordained? I think not. But it is time to adjust our focus and put our main attention on God and let Him work thorough us to put an end to this serious problem.
The goal that we should be most concerned with is our personal relationship with Jesus Christ, then with the great commission set forth in
Matthew 28:19-20 "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age. Amen"
To me, this means that we are to recognize that Jesus calls us as His disciples to go to people of all nations and teach them how to know Him and live for Him. That we are to teach others that Christ must be the center of their life. Now, how do you do this if you are not unified in the body of Christ? You cant. You need the other members of the body. To think that we as individuals have all the necessary gifts to do this tremendous task on our own is pride- and pride takes our focus off Christ and puts it on ourselves. And Bingo-you have started down the path of disunity.
Truly, we are not to be of this world-for in this world it is every man for himself and the more you jump on and over another individual the higher you get in society. That's not God's way though- we are to be humble and compassionate. We do not live for this world's glory, but for the glory of God.
So if we have lost our focus on Christ and the cross, we are following the wrong path.
John 3:16 says, "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life."
God loves us so much, and how do repay His love, by being negative toward our Christian brothers and sisters. Then non-Christians look at us and see no difference between us and the world.
So the the next few days, or however long God wants us to learn this and heed it, we will be looking into His Word for the answer to the question-"Unity in the Body of Christ-unattainable goal or a reality for a Christ focused church?"
My prayer for today is, "Lord, God, help us to 'love You with all our hearts, all our souls and all our strength.' Let our relationship with You be our one and only goal, knowing that in that relationship You will shape and mold us to be Your humble servants. To You be all the glory and honor. Amen!"
