Always Seeking Truth

Christianity
- Fiction No
It greatly saddens me to see so many interpretations on scriptures and
disagreement among Christians. I just recently experienced this looking
at a free on-line bible study lessons course.
I have read the bible in its entirety more than once, yet we can never learn
enough, it seems. I thought it would be good to remind and review the Bible.
After going through a few lessons, it didn't seem quite right. Going a little
further, the commentaries added next to the Bible readings and quiz questions,
were becoming longer and in line with human thinking. Funny, the source
kept repeating that if "ideas about the Bible are not backed up by scripture,
then it is human thinking and to avoid it".
One thing I am certain of and that is in John 4:24, we are admonished
to "worship in spirit and truth". Now, how do we determine what is truth?
Is truth hard to find? Do we have to seek truth?
Looking at the life of Jesus, He taught in illustrations and parables to simplify
and educate His listeners. Was it made difficult for them to understand? Did it
take alot of analogy on the part of the listeners? Really, Jesus taught the way He
did to make things simple and understandable for all who would hear.
Why is it that we seem so confused today regarding understanding the scriptures
and trying to decipher what is truth? Have you ever been to the point that you
know the Holy spirit dwelling within you is just not in agreement with what you
are hearing or reading? That is our God speaking to us.
He wants us to continue to search for truth. Sometimes, Christians spend months
and even years trying to find the right church to worship God. If we are really
searching for the truth - it will require effort and diligence in seeking that truth.
If this were not true, then Matthew would not have talked about the spacious
path leading to destruction and the narrow road leading to life.
As followers of God, we have an obligation to continually seek this "truth".
Many believe that the "truth" is simply any church or person that acknowledges
that Jesus is the Son of God. Is this what the Bible says? Why would the scriptures
tell us that people would cry, "Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name"?
Why would Jesus tell them to "get away from me, you workers of lawlessness".
Does saying we are true followers make it so? Is it enough?
I am writing to encourage and URGE you to examine if what you are hearing and
reading is the "truth". Remember, if you cannot find scripture to back up what is
being said - it cannot be anything except human thinking. God speaks to us in His
Word, the Holy Bible. That is where we find the truth. We may need clarity on a
passage - but it will be backed up by surrounding scripture. We need to test and
re-test what we hear. What we hear forms our beliefs and how we worship Him.
That worship needs to be in"Spirit and Truth".
