How would you feel if you could forget the most unpleasant event in your entire life, and just hold to the best? Does that seem just a little over the top? I know someone who did. Do you know who I’m talking about? He has selective memory, but not like your spouse.
God has chosen to forget the most horrible chapter in human history, your sin! Earthquakes, death and destruction are plenty terrible, but not the one thing He has chosen to forget. In Hebrews 10:11 He declares: their sins and iniquities will I remember no more. He desires your fellowship so much that the most detestable events in humanity, (my and your sin) He has chosen to forget. We call it redemption. He alone is able to accomplish it; for to forgive is human, but to forget is divine.
Imagine that, the omniscient, all-knowing One, has chosen, not merely to forgive, but forget, and in time will actually blot out of recorded history the sins of His children. Isaiah 65:17 boldly states: "For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth; and the former things will not be remembered or come to mind.” How’s that for a really big break? Sometimes amnesia is a really great thing.
Could you and I develop a little case of amnesia? How about that guy that just got the closest parking space in front of the Wal-Mart doors, or the sign language you received on the way home from the driver passing you in the right lane? Or even more importantly, how about you forget your own sins, by staring head-on at the cross? That’s how He did it.
