God's Commercial

Encouragement
- Fiction No
I must admit that I am addicted to television. Whether it’s the news, a good drama, comedy, a suspenseful mystery, action packed show or an awakening documentary; I can’t seem to tear myself away from the alluring tube (I’m not much on reality tv though).
It never seems to fail, just as the show or movie has grabbed you by the heart, and wrapped your emotions around its little finger and just as soon as you get a good grasp of where things are heading and you want to see the show unfold to prove to yourself you’re right; you are rudely interrupted.
That’s right! You guessed it; the annoyance of the commercial. How they come when we least desire them. We understand the necessity in them. However, truth be told, we’d rather not have their interruption at all.
To the viewers they may be a nuisance. To the business owner, they are like an atm. They deposit their product into our minds while we’re relaxed with our guards down and in exchange, we dispense our money to them base solely on what we see and hear in a 30 second clip! Knowing this, business owners spare no expense in developing the image of their product they want the public to see.
This is evident in the few commercials that have caught the attention of viewers universally. Like Nike’s Just Do it. Burger King’s Have it your way. Allstate’s You’re in good hands with Allstate. State Farm’s Like a good neighbor, State Farm is there. Verizon’s Can you hear me now? And who can forget our all time favorite from Wendy’s as they asked the question: Where’s the beef?
I remind you of these commercials because recently as I was reading Matthew 5:16 the image I saw was a commercial. More specifically, me as God’s commercial. I saw a quick series of clips. All combined, they didn’t last more than 30 seconds. I saw the ups…and I saw the downs of my life. I saw the days when I was nothing more than a fight waiting to happen. I had a frown on my face and pain in my soul. Then I saw the day I sold out to Jesus. I saw the day I became a new creature. I saw the day my language changed. I saw the day my attitude changed. And then I saw the day when those who use to know me, saw the light within and realized there had been a change. And when they inquired of me, all I could say was: That’s God. Next I saw a of me today preaching and singing God’s praise. Across the screen the tagline finally came; “Jesus Christ, Do You Make Others Want Him?”
Prayer: Father, help me to be the image you desire others to see. Let my light lead them to thee. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
